CORSETRY COURSE - advanced level

This course offers a unique opportunity to learn the advanced techniques of corset making through personalized one-on-one lessons in the designer’s atelier. Under the expert guidance of Lorenzo Seghezzi, you will explore and practice the key methods used in corsetry, culminating in the creation of a made-to-measure underbust corset using high-quality materials.

The course spans approximately 24 hours, with the duration depending on your sewing speed and skill level.

COURSE STRUCTURE:

The course begins with a brief history of the corset, dispelling common myths, analyzing its structure, and introducing key terminology. You'll also get an overview of the materials used in corsetry and their specific functions.

Part 1: Custom Corset Pattern Making

• How to take accurate measurements
• Constructing the pattern
• Effective waist reduction techniques
• Seam allowances

Part 2: Pattern Placement and Cutting

• Positioning pattern pieces on cotton coutil or nylon mesh
• Cutting the fabric

Part 3: Corset Assembly

• Inserting the split busk
• Sewing the panels together
• Inserting the waist tape
• Cutting and inserting steel boning
• Finishing the top and bottom edges
• Inserting steel eyelets
• Lacing techniques

REQUIRED SKILLS: Sewing and pattern-making skills are necessary, though prior experience in corsetry is not required.

LOCATION: The lessons take place in our atelier, located between Lambrate and Udine M2. The exact address will be provided upon order confirmation.

• Cotton canvas
• 100% cotton coutil (available in black, nude, and white)
• Steel boning
• Pattern paper
• Printed size 42 dress block with darts
• Corsetry tools
• Jack industrial sewing machine and Brother domestic sewing machine
• Brother overlock machine
• Handouts and technical instructions
• List of online stores for corsetry supplies

MATERIALS YOU NEED TO BRING:

• Rulers
• Basic sewing kit (fabric scissors, pins, thimble, needles, etc.)
• Packed lunch (if needed)
• You may bring your own sewing machine if preferred
